Emily Franco Former Middle School teacher
Name: Emily Franco
Hometown and primary/secondary schools: I was born in Albuquerque, NM, but moved to Austin during my school years and graduated from Westlake High School.
College and graduate education: I have a BA from Rice University in psychology, and a law degree from the University of Texas.
Work experience in public education: I taught 7th and 8th grade for 3 years in the Rio Grande Valley.
Other career experience: I am currently clerking for a judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
Family, hobbies, other interests: I enjoy reading, traveling, playing and watching soccer, and spending time with my husband and our dog.
Why I’m invested in public education: I am invested in education because I have seen first-hand the powerful effect education can have in the life of a student. Education can change the life of a child and the path of a family, and all children in Austin should have access to a high-quality public school that will give them these opportunities. I also want excellent schools in Austin for my own children to attend.
Why I joined AKF: I helped found AKF because I believe strong school board leaders have the power to positively shape and direct education in Austin, and I want to help find and support the best people for that role.
